Loftness has updated its line of Battle Ax mulching heads for skid steers, excavators, prime movers and tractors, bringing the Battle Ax to a wider range of power units, including low-and high-flow skid steers; 10,000- to 88,000-pound excavators; prime movers up to 375 horsepower; and tractors up to 70 horsepower.
Battle Ax mulching heads are defined by their unique rotor with built-in depth gauges, which function similarly to raker teeth on chain saws to prevent the attachments from engaging too much material at one time. This design is more ideal for managing the amount of material being fed into the attachment than ring-style rotors, which many operators find to be overly limiting. They also have the Loftness-exclusive two-stage cutting chamber, which allows the Battle Ax to process material more thoroughly than competitive mulching heads, since it has two separate shear bars.
The complete Battle Ax line includes two models for skid steers and compact track loaders. The L Series is engineered for low-flow skid steers weighing up to 10,300 pounds with 15 to 35.9 GPM and 30 to 70 hydraulic horsepower. The S Series is compatible with larger high-flow skid steers with 28 to 62.9 GPM and 50 to 150 hydraulic horsepower.
Next, Loftness offers the 20, 30, 40 and 50 Series Battle Ax for excavators ranging from 10,000 to 88,000 pounds. Each series is offered with different motors, tooth options and other features matched to a specific weight class of excavator.
For prime movers, the H Series is designed for power units with 50 to 150 horsepower. The Battle Ax Extreme offers additional features for use on the most powerful prime movers up to 375 horsepower.
Finally, a PTO driven model is now available for tractors with 540 PTO RPM and up to 70 horsepower. It is intended to help large property owners use their existing tractors to manage vegetation on their acreage.
