Genie’s newest manufacturing facility in Monterrey, Mexico, has earned the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED is the most widely used green building rating system in the world.
Through design, construction and operations practices that improve environmental and human health, LEED-certified buildings are helping to make the world more sustainable. Green buildings also allow companies to operate more sustainably and give the people inside them a healthier, more comfortable space to work.
“Our Company’s purpose is to help improve the lives of people around the world. At Genie, we do that by producing quality equipment that keeps people safe while they are working at height. We also do that by being thoughtful in how we design our products, our processes, and our manufacturing facilities to minimize our environmental footprint, and help our customers, our industry, and our communities reach their sustainability goals. I am incredibly proud to have those efforts, and our newest manufacturing facility, recognized with LEED Gold certification.”
said Simon Meester, President of Terex AWP, the Terex segment that includes the Genie brand.
LEED projects earn points by adhering to prerequisites and credits across nine measurements for building excellence from integrative design to human health to material use, including:
- Location and Transportation
- Sustainable Sites
- Water Efficiency
- Energy & Atmosphere
- Materials & Resources
- Indoor Environmental Quality
- Innovation in Design
The Terex Genie Mexico facility achieved LEED certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions in areas that included, but were not limited to, reducing indoor and outdoor water usage, optimizing energy performance and renewable energy production — all identified as regional priorities.
“Achieving LEED certification is more than just implementing sustainable practices. It represents a commitment to making the world a better place and influencing others to do better. Given the extraordinary importance of climate protection and the central role buildings play in that effort, Terex Genie Mexico is creating a path forward with their certification.”
said Peter Templeton, president and CEO, USGBC.
