Boral Quarry Manager James Magarey is a Country Fire Services’ volunteer with the Coromandel Valley branch in the Adelaide Hills.
However, the father of five never thought he would see the day when he would need to use his firefighting skills to defend his own workplace.
James instinctively used the talents he had acquired over the past 15 years as a volunteer firefighter when Boral’s hard rock quarry in Lobethal recently caught alight. Not only did James successfully defend plant and equipment from the blaze, but the quarry’s five-year injury-free record continues to stand.
