Buoyed by its souring economic success in foreign trade, luxury tourism and global business, Dubai is taking off as the Emirate’s true strategic centre of commerce with the building of the world’s largest airport and a new urban metropolis.
As the country continues to attract new investment and flies the flag for sustainable business development, the Dubai World Central airport will play a pivotal role in transporting a growing influx of visitors. A visionary new city will be built around the airport to provide a complete transport experience for more than 200 million expected passengers a year – more than double the number that currently fly to Dubai’s main airport hub.
The latest cinematic offering from Volvo CE will showcase how the manufacturer is helping in this transformation by putting to work 37 Volvo articulated haulers. When complete, Volvo CE will have helped construct the world’s largest air junction in one of the fastest growing urban centers.
Perfectly placed as a hub of international trade and transit between Europe and Asia, Dubai has grown over the last 20 years from a rural fishing town in the desert into the birthplace of the world’s arguably most impressive skyline – home to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, and alive with more than 200 nationalities.
In 2014, the Dubai International Airport overtook London Heathrow to become the world’s busiest airport with over 70 million annual passengers, putting increased pressure on the country’s infrastructure. But when complete, the new Dubai World Central airport is set to transport more than double those numbers every year – taking advantage of its strategic position within an eight-hour flight from two thirds of the world’s population.
Jacqueline Reid, Interim Global Director, External Communications, at Volvo CE, said: “This incredible construction of the world’s largest airport is a defining moment in Dubai’s history – cementing its reputation as a true global center for international trade and travel. Volvo CE is a very real part of this transformation, creating sustainable construction solutions to change the way we all live and travel in the future, and we are proud to showcase the impact of this major infrastructure project through our latest Megaproject Listing.”
