A small machine with a big impact: That sums up the new W 35 Ri. Wirtgen’s smallest cold milling machine will be making its debut at this year’s Intermat in Paris. Following on the heels of the 50-cm milling machines, the W 50 Ri and W 60 Ri, which have now been successfully launched, this is the third model in the new generation of small milling machines.
Small milling machine – Great performance
They say it’s not about size, but actually, they’re wrong, for size is the key advantage of the W 35 Ri. Whether it’s cutting out small areas for partial roadway rehabilitations, milling around manhole covers or applying or removing road markings, the versatile milling machine has the right solution to meet every challenge. And not just in classical small milling machine applications: The W 35 Ri is perfect when paired with large milling machines. With its low weight, this easy-to-transport and highly mobile machine is an excellent and cost-effective option for small reworking applications. It has a much smaller milling radius than its predecessor in both the clockwise and the anticlockwise direction. As a result, swift turning and maneuvering on the job site are now even greater strengths.
Powerful and productive for perfect milled results
Equipped with a 45-KW Deutz engine and the ultimate in eco-friendly engine technology in line with the latest emission standards, EU Stage 3b / US Tier 4 Final, the W 35 Ri boasts 7% more engine output. Meanwhile, the electronic engine control makes for a particularly responsive engine with excellent torque characteristics. At the same time, three variably selectable milling drum speeds ensure a wide range of applications. As a result, milling jobs involving milling depths of up to 110 mm at a working width of 350 mm can be carried out quickly, efficiently and perfectly in line with the application. What is more, Wirtgen can also supply the smallest milling machine with a 500-mm milling drum on request. Prompted by the high engine output, many customers have already been fitting the preceding model with the wider milling drum to extend the machine’s range of applications.
Intuitive operation optimizes work steps
Like the 50-cm and 1-m milling machines in Wirtgen’s new generation of small and compact milling machines, the W 35 Ri is distinctively simple to operate. Based on a standardized operating concept encompassing all series, the smallest Wirtgen milling machine also permits operators to save up to three milling depths using the ergonomic multifunctional armrest on either side – a feature which is included as standard.
Another new feature is the integration of the Wirtgen machine management system WIDRIVE, which was previously only used in larger milling machines but now links the main machine functions on the W 35 Ri, too. As a result, such systems as the diesel engine control, travel drive, milling drum drive, water system or LEVEL PRO Plus are controlled centrally. This generally eliminates some 50% of the manual interventions the operator would previously have had to perform in order to control the machine and coordinate individual work steps during the milling process.
For the first time ever, the leveling system LEVEL PRO PLUS is now also available for the smallest of Wirtgen’s cold milling machines. A proprietary Wirtgen development, the system features simple, intuitive operation, ensuring high-quality, precise milling results. The preset target milling depth is adjusted precisely via robust cable sensors and shown on the high-resolution LEVEL PRO PLUS color display. Different sensors are available to meet the wide range of accuracy requirements of the surfaces being processed. All available sensors, be it laser, 3D or ultrasonic sensors, can be connected to the LEVEL PRO PLUS leveling system.
Variable operator’s platform located above or behind the milling drum
The option of varying the operator’s platform to include additional components enhances flexibility on the job site. In addition, the platform can now be moved down from its usual position over the machine in a few swift moves. Standing on a floor behind the milling drum, the operator can control the W 35 Ri as usual via the steering wheel and the individually adjustable multifunctional armrest.
